On the Nature of Critical Points in Leakage Regimes of a Conductor-Backed Coplanar Strip Line - Microwave Theory and Techniques, IEEE Transactions on

چکیده
Leaky dominant mode propagation regimes of a conductor-backed coplanar strip line are rigorously analyzed using the concept of critical or equilibrium points from catastrophe and bifurcation theories, in conjunction with a full-wave integral equation solution. The existence of nondegenerate or Morse critical points (MCP’s) and degenerate or fold (turning) critical points (FP’s) in coupling and leakage regions are associated with the occurrence of improper real and complex (leaky) solutions. The locations and types of critical points determine the stability and instability of the transmission line system with respect to small changes in geometrical parameters. The dispersion behavior of improper real and complex (leaky) solutions are efficiently reproduced in the local neighborhood of MCP’s and FP’s using a Taylor series expansion about those points. The qualitative and quantitative dynamic behavior of the transmission line modes can be investigated by examining the evolution of nondegenerate and degenerate points versus some structural parameter, such as strip width. The proposed analysis enables the prediction of bifurcation situations and the existence of improper real and complex solutions and gives a complete description of the system’s structural behavior.

Recently, spiral inductors have widely been used instead of resistors in the design of matching circuits to enhance the thermal noise performance of a wireless transceiver. However, such elements usually have low quality factor (Q) and may encounter the self-resonance in microwave-frequency band which permits its use in higher frequencies, and on the other hand, they occupy the large on-chip sp...

The conductor-backed asymmetrical coplanar waveguide or micro-coplanar strip (MCS) line has been analyzed. The conformal mapping method is used to calculate the quasistatic effective permittivity εeff and characteristic impedance Z0. The computed results of the present work are found to be in good agreement when compared with the results obtained using the method reported by Yamashita et al. [1...

We report traveling-wave amplifiers having 1–112 GHz bandwidth with 7 dB gain, and 1–157 GHz bandwidth with 5 dB gain. A third amplifier exhibited 5 dB gain and a 180GHz high-frequency cutoff. The amplifiers were fabricated in a 0.1m gate length InGaAs/InAlAs HEMT MIMIC technology. The use of gate-line capacitive-division, cascode gain cells and low-loss elevated coplanar waveguide lines have y...
